Overview
The Bossier Schools Department of Technology supports student achievement by providing staff development and high-quality technology systems essential to the success of every student. These technology solutions support teachers, engage students, and assist in the effective business operations of Bossier Parish Schools.
Prior to the Google Workspace for Education initiative, Bossier Parish Schools supported approximately 6000 Windows devices on a 2,000 user Microsoft Exchange system limited to 200 MB per user.
In 2013, Google Workspace for Education provided the opportunity for the migration of all email to Gmail which allowed for students to have email accounts as well. At this time there were only 362 Chromebooks in the district. By 2016, the number of Chromebooks grew to 4,037 and PD was being offered for teachers on Google Workspace for Education. Teachers started utilizing Google Workspace for Education with students and writing grants to purchase Chromebooks for their classrooms. The district now has 25,000 Chromebooks and 218 Google Certified Educators from in house training.

"Since the introduction of Google tools, I have been apprehensive to incorporate this technology in my daily practice since I felt very savvy using Microsoft Office. Before too long I realized a could not keep up with the vast majority using Google tools so I attended the Google Bootcamp offered through the District Technology Department. It was one of the best professional development opportunities I have ever participated in!"

“Attending the Google Certified Educator training was a total game changer for my department! It has drastically improved my day to day email and file management. As a department head, I get an overwhelming amount of emails every day. Labeling and archiving them has been a HUGE help, enabling me to organize and retrieve emails easily. Even though I can drag and drop emails into my task list, I prefer to use my inbox as my ‘to do list’ since all my emails are labeled.”
